Hukum Penubuhan Bank Susu
“From Ibn Masúd, who said: “There is no fosterage except what strengthens the bones and develops flesh.”
In relation to the above, considering the fact that the establishment of human milk banks can result in a mix-up in the bloodline and cause the Muslim community to be drawn into uncertainty and that which is prohibited, and since the need for its establishment is not in the state of necessity, which if not carried out would threaten the interests of the general public, the Discourse has agreed to decide that the establishment of human milk banks is not permitted.
The Discourse has also decided that in order to fulfill the needs of premature babies who require medical treatment, and in respect of mothers who are unable to produce sufficient breast milk, mothers who suffer from serious illnesses or infectious diseases, as well as mothers who are unable to breastfeed their babies, it is permissible for other mothers to voluntarily donate their breast milk to babies in need. However, the family of the breastfed baby and the donor must get to know one another.
